National Alumni Association Recognize George E. Higgs for His
Outstanding Leadership
George E. Higgs, resident of Prairie View, TX, is recognized for his outstanding leadership to
the PVAMU National Alumni Association. He served as the organization's Executive Director
from 1987 - 2003. During his tenure, approximately 25 alumni chapters were chartered by the
Association. It was during his admnistration that approximately $700,000 was contributed for
student scholarships to Prairie View A&M University.

With the realization that Prairie View A&M University has a long history of producing leaders
isn the field of education -- Mr. Higgs, in concert with the College of Education, founded the
Teacher Education Endowment Fund at the University. Over the years, approximately $200,000
has been awarded to students pursuing careers in teaching. The endowment continues to grow
at Prairie View.

Additionally, as President of the Prairie View A&M University National Alumni Association
Athletic Club, the Club under Mr. Higgs' leadership has contributed in excess of $120,000 to
the PVAMU Department of Athletics.

In 2002, the PVAMU National Alumni Association Board of Directors unanimously voted to
name the Association Building in honor of George E. Higgs.

The NAA and Prairie View A&M University salutes alumnus George Higgs for his tireless efforts
as leader and fundraiser.
