The Prairie View Athletic Club is organized exclusively for the purpose of encouraging, promoting, advancing, and supporting Prairie View A&M University's Athletic Programs. The objectives are: (1) to support athletic competitions in which the Prairie View Panthers are engaged at home and on the road (where possible) by being present; (2) to provide financial support for the strengthening and enhancement of the athletic programs; (3) to instill in the public the "P.V. Spirit"; (4) to engage in social, cultural, and educational activities that lend support to the athletic programs; (5) to have the "Number 1" Booster Club in America; and (6) to reflect the attributes of a prestigious organization that requires total commitment, dedication, and loyalty to the athletic programs. Having experienced several successful, fun-filled chartered bus trips in support of the Prairie View Panthers football team, a group of enthusiastic boosters came together to organize and charter the Prairie View Athletic Club. Thus, the Club had its beginnings on Friday, August 13, 1982, with G. E. Higgs, Marion Henry, Jonathan Davis, Alvin Coleman, Samuel Good, Lorenzo Tramble, A. D. Steward, Willie J. Bell, Lindsey Weatherspoon, Joseph Battle, Frank Francis, U. S. Wallace, Elroy Stevenson, Griff Kendrick, Charles Cokes, Hoover Carden, Seab Smith, Kenneth Smith, C. A. Thomas, Leroy Moore, and Coach Jim McKinley. The first elected officers were George E. Higgs, President; Leroy G. Moore, Vice President; Charles Cokes, Secretary; Griff Kendrick, Treasurer. The Club established its purpose as a focus on the financial and moral support of all varsity sports at the University. The Prairie View Athletic Club was chartered on August 2, 1983.
